3 We Called Them Giants Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans, Clayton Cowles 86
Cool concept but sort of bleh to meI thought the writing was pretty obvious/unnuanced and didn’t love that the white blonde girl was the protagonist (this character type of orphan untrusting of everyone is just very overdone in teen books from the last 15 years). I also thought Annette was kind of one-dimensional/held up as this important and always correct figure even when the main character thought she was wrong, which feels like model minority business..but I digress. I guess it would have been more racist if their personalities were swapped. Maybe it’s fine actually I don’t know!!! HOWEVR I really liked the story, it was very charming! Everyone disappears and the giants in the story are like humans and the people are like cats. And they don’t really understand each other but they come to love each other. So good!!!

9 Twilight Stephanie Meyer 371
I wanted to read it because I love vampires and I wanted to know about the 2000s pop vampire staple and I thought I would have fun but I actually had such a terrible time because Stephanie Meyer does not like vampires. She's like...neutered the most interesting parts of vampire lore to make Edward Family Friendly and he STILL ISN'T. Deeply annnoying to read I hate how Bella is characterized as stupid I hate Edward for being condescending and evil and I am so far ambivilant towards Jacob I like him the best so far. Despite the Taylor Lautner of it all. I am fond of watching the movies for fun so I was surprised how much reading this pissed me off. I think Edward sucks and is unlikable and not even in an interesting way. Like I love an evil fictional man but he's just. like there's already a million guys like him in real life. and WHY is it SUBVERSIVE that Bella is letting a man take care of her!!!!! just because she's an independent 17 y/o does NOT MEAN it is WOKE for her to BE SUBSERVIANT to a MAN!!!!!!!!!!!! stop that shit right now!!!!! Me and Hawthorne were talking about what vampirism represents in Twilight because it sure as fuck doesn't represent sex and we came up with the idea that vampirism in Twilight is actually just Mormonism. Edward gets to have Bella forever but only if she's a vampire (read: Mormon). The vampires in America have a very similar Joseph Smith style colonialist narrative where the European vampires just "wanted to come to a new uninhabited land". Maybe it's more like vampirism is Christianity and The Cullens are practicing Mormons because they're doing this weird freak vegetarian thing that no one else understands. Idk. It's there. Anyways it's weird that Bella is also like. sort of a Mormon character (she's very modest and wants a man to take care of her and she's Weird and Ostracized for wanting this) without being Mormon. Stephanie Meyer you will not see the light of heaven for this horrible sexist racist STUPID propoganda. I didn't like twilight when I was twelve and I was right. BAD!!!!!!
Book from the library 06/15/26
10 Black Cotton Star Yves Sente, Steve Cuzor 169 Really liked the art style; like if superhero comics met minimalism or realism. Loved the limited, shifting color palette. Reminds me of SSSS. Sad to discover it’s not??? nonfiction at all it seems???? Comic from the library 06/17/26
11 Every Time We Say Goodbye Ivana Sajko, translated from the Croatian by Mima Simić 126 Really loved this. It grew on me as I read it. Super interesting stream-of-consciousness book about some writer resting on his laurels of being a good person while doing a lot of bad and annoying actions. One sentence per chapter with lots of detours to different memories (SO well structured, it laid out the story of this guy’s life in such a compelling way)---it was written exactly how I think in my brain. Lots of interesting things to say about translation too inside the book; I bet it was so difficult to translate, like Rilke’s poetry. Book from the library 06/17/26
